Tortoise the HAre & the Millionaire
A scruffy, rough-around-the-edges quintet decked out in plaid and denim, The Tortoise The Hare & The Millionaire are grounded in a sort of no-nonsense, straight-shooting southern blues rock. However, the group flits effortlessly from genre to genre, not in a tacky way, but in a way that represents the grand scope of their influences, including southern blues, rock, funk and louisiana jazz mix.
Since 2017 the band has grown tremendously both musically and genre wise. Beginning as a three piece blues/rock band (Eric Allard, Matt Carr, Ted Nicholson) Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire have continuously grown to incorporate their favourite genres into their sound and live show adding two permanent horn players (Adam Johnston, Jenn Russell) into the mix in 2019.
With over 100 shows under their belts and countless festival stages (Area 506, Music NB, Folly Fest, Evolve, Harvest Jazz and Blues, Living Roots) Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire capped off 2019 with two huge shows, including opening for Amy Helm at Cloggeroo Festival and opening for Canadian Blues legend Ariel Posen and US Alt Country legends Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats on Harvest Jazz and Blues closing night in 2019.
Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire will launch their debut LP ‘YardSale’ on June 3rd, 2022. "‘Yard Sale’ is a local labour of love featuring Kill Chicagos Greg Webber as producer and Marians Dylan Ward as sound engineer. Special guests include Pallmers Emily Kennedy and horns by The Hypochondriacs Jeannine Gallant and Kelly Waterhouse. Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire will make stops at the ECMA’s in Fredericton on May 7th, FollyFest 22 in Gagetown on July 8-10th and AREA 506 in Saint John on July 29th with more TBA.
